Questions
Is this game music really free?
Yes. Every track is released by Purrple Cat under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). You can download the MP3s and use them in free or paid games, apps, streams and videos. The one condition is credit: say who made the music and link to the licence.
Can I use it in a commercial game?
Yes. CC BY 4.0 allows commercial use. Put the credit line in your in-game credits and on your store page, and keep a link to the licence. This is general information, not legal advice. If you have a publisher or a lawyer, show them the licence text.
What credit do I need to give?
Paste this into your credits screen, store page or video description: “Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/”. The Soundtrack Builder writes the credit for you, with the track titles you chose.
Can I stream or livestream a game with this music?
Yes. Music is fine on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Instagram and other social platforms and livestreams, as long as you credit it. Put the credit in your stream panel, video description or pinned comment.
Can I loop the tracks?
These are full-length songs, not seamless game loops. They end naturally, so the easy way to use them is to play the whole song and then start the next one, or fade out and crossfade. The Engines page has a crossfade snippet. A looping tool in your engine will work, but you will hear the join.
What kind of music is it?
Calm, instrumental lofi: soft drums, warm keys, guitars and pads. It works for hubs, exploration, menus, cosy games, puzzle games, streams and videos. It is not a good fit for boss fights, action combat or horror stingers.
Do you offer WAV or stems?
No. The MP3 is the file on this site. There are no stems, no loop points and no WAV downloads here.
Can I edit or cut the tracks?
Yes. CC BY 4.0 lets you adapt the music, for example trim it, fade it, loop a section or mix it under dialogue. Keep the credit and say that you changed it if you did.
